Teatro delle Ariette is a cultural association, studying, producing and promoting theatre. It was born in 1996 and since then it has created, performed and/or promoted events in houses, bakeries, hospitals, schools, streets, piazzas and in fields, but also in important national and international theatres.
The association is located in the farm “the Ariette” in Castello di Serravalle, in the Bologna municipality, where  Paola Berselli and Stefano Pasquini have been living since 1989, leading the farm. In 1999, in the middle of the fields, we autonomously built the “Deposito Attrezzi” (=the warehouse) literally with our hands, intended as a country building for theatre.
Teatro delle Ariette is not only a company of players, but something more: an experience, a daily practice to search a place where art, life and work live together and are the same thing.
Our theatre is a “land theatre”, made by hand, experienced through the body. Our search is a journey trough what is human, a constant work to open the door that brings inside: in the invisible theatre of the heart. Where our theatre is.

Our shows deal with the autobiographical relationship of man with rough matters, with animals and other men, with land. Our shows include contradictions, investigate past and future and search for a deep sharing of present between actors and audience. Besides thoughts and feelings, there are dishes, knives, wheat and water, cheeses, carrots, eggs, animals and songs in these shows. We speak about love, joy, life and death.
We went all over Italy and throughout Europe (Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and Portugal).
Our shows are made of our life, of water and bread.

Since 1997, we’ve been working on the project TO THE THEATRE, IN THE HOUSES (A Teatro nelle Case). We hosted shows and meetings at our place and in many others buildings of the area we live: the Samoggia valley.
We’ve always worked to bring contemporary theatre in real places, in everyday life where people meet and know each other.
The theatre helps us to raise the sense of community, it pushes us to think about our history and our future, it deeply moves us during the shows when actors and audience are so close to become one.
People who opened their houses to artists and audiences, changed their private places into public spaces of sharing and culture.

In 2009, a new adventure began: PICCOLA EUROPA (Little Europe) a 3-year project to host European, contemporary theatres, with the supervision of three Artistic Directors we met during our European tours in the last years; they all know our work and our land/background:
Cristina Grande Performing Arts, Fundaçao Serralves di Porto (Portugal) 2009
Mariví Martín Artistic Director VEO Festival Valencia (Spain) 2010
Francis Peduzzi Artistic Director Le Channel Scène Nationale de Calais (France) 2011.

Unfortunately, due to the financial crisis of the present days, primarily reflecting on cultural activities with heavy cuts to our budgets, that projects was interrupted after the first year.

We produced culture not only through our shows, hosting artists and scholars, but also by publishing books and documentaries related to some significant experiences of theatre.
We did it working in our land, with local energies and expertise because we are convinced that every single experience may become a common heritage.
